3 Ways to Boost Your Confidence
When we feel confident in ourselves, it’s as though we can take on the world. No matter what challenges life throws at us, we have faith that we can conquer them. However, as nice as it is to ooze confidence, it can take a lot of work. And it’s not a given either. In this world, it can definitely take consistent work to maintain a sense of confidence. Here are three things to check in on:
Be Kinder to Yourself
K, this is easier said than done a lot of the time, but it IS the first step to discovering a happier, confident you. It’s important to remember that everyone makes mistakes, and no one is perfect, either. In a world where it seems like people are living their best lives and are perfect on social media and other spaces, it can be easy to start comparing yourself to others and feeling like you should be doing the same things, that you’re not working hard enough, or your looks don’t match some stupid, fabricated beauty standard. Rather than tearing yourself down or putting pressure on yourself to meet unrealistic expectations, start being kinder to yourself and focus on the things in your life that you are proud of and what you do love about yourself.
One thing we like to do is to adopt a ‘growth mentality,’ in other words, focusing on being proud on the work we’ve accomplished or put our efforts into instead of specific achievements.
Celebrate What You Love About How You Look
As mentioned above, there is a lot of pressure to adhere to certain beauty standards, but the reality is these standards are completely fabricated - and often based more on what sells than what is truly beautiful. Instead of focusing on what makes you different in a negative way, approach your differences as an asset. You could celebrate this with clothes or makeup that enhance what makes you unique. Or you could go even further and go for a portrait session - or even a boudoir photographer. While being on camera might seem daunting at first, photos from another person’s perspective can often help us see ourselves in a new light - and this can be incredibly empowering.
Try New Things
Sometimes, stepping outside of your comfort zone can be the best thing to do if you are trying to rediscover yourself and become more confident. It’s easy to shy away from certain activities or ambitions, telling yourself that you can’t do it – but this defeatist attitude is one of the key things that is holding you back. You might not love every new thing that you try, but you also might find certain activities exhilarating and inspiring. So, whether it’s taking a cooking class, going skydiving, getting a college degree, or even starting a new business – take the plunge and discover what you’re truly capable of.
