Easy Bathroom Upgrades You Can Do This Weekend

The first step to a bathroom upgrade (or any upgrade for that matter) is deciding what we’re willing to spend, from finding supplies at a big-box store or seeking out more specialized products and higher quality. Either way, here are some easy bathroom upgrades that can be done in a single weekend. Even this coming weekend, by the way.

Install a Towel Rack

If the towel rack seems to be on its last legs, or if there’s no towel rack at all, consider replacing it with one that matches the current bathroom style. If changing the fixture for a new model, check the measurements before removing the old one to ensure that it will fit where the old towel bar was. While we’re at it, stock up on a few new hand towels to reflect your personality and add a pop to the decor.

Replace the Lightbulbs

Taking on electrical projects can be a bit risky, so if you don’t want to involve an electrician, consider the upgrade new lightbulbs can create. Swapping out current bulbs with energy-efficient mood lighting or accented bulbs can really give a new look to the whole space. We personally love gold-dipped bulbs for a unique touch on standard lighting. Add more light to an area by creatively adding lamps to a room. You may choose to have them blend into the room’s décor or stand out as a statement piece.

Remodel the Cabinets

Cabinets are a standard feature in most bathrooms, but they can be easily remodeled. Upgrade them in several ways, including wallpaper! If you are considering a facelift for your cabinets, one option is to reface or paint them. Install decorative knobs and pulls on the cabinet doors to add personality. If replacing with an entirely new model, place it in the exact location as the original to keep the project simple.

New Faucets

A new faucet can give the whole sink a new look with minimal effort. Here’s how to install one:

  • Turn off the water to the bathroom.

  • Remove the old faucet by unscrewing it from underneath the countertop.

  • Clean up any old plumber's putty or silicone caulk removing excess adhesive before installing the new faucets.

  • Carefully follow all instructions that come with the new faucet set on installing it in its new home.

  • Turn the water back on, and you are all set!

Install a New Showerhead

Replacing a showerhead is simple and could help reduce water usage as well. This project can be super gratifying. After switching out the showerhead, take a long, hot shower, shave your legs (or don't!), and enjoy the fruits of labor. First, use an adjustable wrench to unscrew and loosen the existing showerhead, clean the threads, and add sealant tape to secure the installation. Tighten the new showerhead in place, turn on the water and check for leaks. If you find any leaks, simply tighten with the wrench until the leak is fixed.

You can do each of these easy bathroom upgrades this weekend - but make sure you set aside enough time to finish before the workweek begins. The last thing you want is to be halfway through your project when duty calls…
