One of the benefits of a rustic living room is that it can instantly turn a space into something warm, welcoming and homely. It exudes traditional features that almost transport us back to the past - but better. It turns an average living room into one where you crave long, cozy nights in front of the fire. But where to begin?

Choosing The Right Color Palette

The first and main priority when attempting to create a perfect rustic living room is to choose the right color palette. The shades and tones in the interior design efforts can either make or break the intended rustic feel - and some colors definitely work better than others. For example, most garish and bright colors won’t be welcome in a rustic interior design. They are too eye-catching and overbearing, and realistically, artificial colors just aren’t common in older, more traditional style homes that are generally as rustic as possible. Instead, the most suitable colors that you should be focusing on when you are attempting to build the best rustic living room are colors we find in nature, aka earth tones, that look totally natural and gentle. Shades like sage green, chocolate brown, sandy beige and even burnt orange or a deep maroon are often ideal colors. Don’t be afraid to play with variations on the tones and don’t be afraid to take a look online for some more inspiration if not sure about what kind of earth tones would work best in a rustic living room design.

Find Authentic Vintage, Antique or Handmade Items

Another easy way to introduce more rustic elements is to source a range of vintage, antique or handmade furnishings or accessories can be utilized to establish a more authentic look. Opting for brand new or modern items that are made out of artificial materials such as plastic will certainly detract massively from the rustic vibe and will also pull focus in the room, so finding older alternatives made out of natural materials can be a much better pathway to explore. Whether going for a reputable store like Esmaili Rugs & Antiques, visiting car boot sales and auctions, or flea markets and estate sales, you’ll be able to find countless unique pieces that can add massively of aesthetic value to a rustic living room. Plus, it’s super fun to do the sourcing. Think sheepskin rugs, handmade wooden tables, hand woven wall tapestries and other similar rustic decor to build the perfect cosy living room that the whole family want to spend all of their time in.
