With thousands of new skincare products launched each year, it’s easy to feel as though our bank accounts cannot keep up with the prescribed skincare routine. However the best ingredients are often lying around our homes. In fact, taking a DIY approach to your skincare regime and using things you already have in your cupboards could be the key to the natural glow-up you’ve been looking for.

Plus, DIY skincare is often a great way to take better care of the planet, as it encourages us to be more sustainable, thinking more thoughtfully about ingredients, and reduce the number of products we are buying from stores. It's also significantly kinder to our budget, for the record.

With that in mind, here are some simple DIY skincare hacks that you should try out this summer!

Relax with an oatmeal face mask.

While it may not be as delicious as pancakes, there are plenty of benefits of using oatmeal on your skin. For example, it is full of proteins, which help to moisturize your skin and fight off signs of aging. It also soaks up excess oil and prevents your skin from drying out while doing so - meaning it is particularly effective during the summer months.  Furthermore, oatmeal is often used to treat soothing dry or itchy skin, including conditions such as eczema. Finally, an oatmeal face mask is also incredibly gentle and free from any harsh chemicals, meaning it’s perfect for those who might deal with sensitive skin but want to try something new.

Bring on the moisture with some coconut oil.

Coconut oil has many uses outside of the kitchen. For example, coconut oil restores shine to dull or tired hair and can help to treat split ends. And when applied in moderation, it can also be great for your skin. This is due to the fact that it reduces inflammation and can help small wounds such as cuts and scrapes heal more quickly. It also reduces redness and gives your skin a healthy, natural glow. Nevertheless, it is important that you only apply small amounts of coconut oil to your skin, as you do not want it to transfer to clothes or your sheets - as it can get stuck and start to go rancid.

Clean your skin with goat milk soap

It’s not a secret that products that contain natural ingredients are very hypoallergenic and remove dirt from pores very gently. One of them is goat milk that contains numerous natural fats, especially caprylic acid that helps to clean the skin without causing any damages and irritation. Using natural goat milk soaps will not only clean your skin but also remove dry skin and nourish it for a day. These soaps support your skin and leave it moisturized as well.

Use anti-cellulite creams to get rid of cellulite

While it’s perfectly natural, cellulite and stretch marks can be frustrating for some. One of the best ways to combat cellulite and stretch marks is by using topical creams and serums that contain ingredients like caffeine, retinol, and vitamin C. These ingredients work by stimulating circulation, improving skin elasticity, and promoting collagen production, which can all help reduce the appearance of cellulite and stretch marks. Consider incorporating anti-cellulite products from Evertone into your skincare routine, because these products are specifically formulated to target areas of the body where cellulite is most common, like the thighs, buttocks, and stomach.

However, while these products can be effective, it's important to remember that reducing the appearance of cellulite and stretch marks is a gradual process that requires a holistic approach, including exercise, hydration, and a healthy diet. By combining these strategies, you can achieve smoother, healthier-looking skin in time for summer.

Freshen up with a coffee body scrub.

If you can’t start your day without a cup of coffee, then you’ll love this next one. Give your skin a similar pick-me-up by creating your own coffee-based body scrub. You simply need to mix together three spoonfuls of ground coffee with a spoonful of oil and one tablespoon of brown sugar. This will create the perfect body scrub to brush away imperfections alongside dirt and grime, leaving your skin looking and feeling great. Plus, coffee grounds actually contain a lot of antioxidant properties, which means that they can help protect your skin. And even better - you can use the scrub over your entire body, not just your face.

Cool down with a honey & lemon face mask.

Face masks are a great way to relax and, as a result, should be considered an important part of your self-care routine - and, by combining honey, freshly squeezed lemon juice, and a small amount of baking soda, you can create your own spa-worthy mask right in your kitchen. Honey and lemon are a great skin-friendly combo as they can soothe irritation and redness while restoring your skin’s natural glow and moisture. Apply the mask and then simply sit back and relax for around 15 minutes, then wipe away and enjoy the post-face-mask glow. Even better, it smells delicious!

Destress with a cucumber eye mask.

You’ve probably seen cucumber slices being applied over people’s eyes in TV and films for decades now, and you may have even tried it out yourself if you’ve been to a spa. However, this spa treatment can easily be replicated at home. Here’s what you need: a cucumber. Got it? Well done. Slice it thinly and evenly and pat dry with a paper towel before resting the cucumber over your eyes for around fifteen minutes. This has an immediate cooling effect, which can reduce redness and puffiness around your eyes. It's also much more relaxing than you expect it to be.

Make your own skin-friendly smoothies.

It is also important to remember that the food and drink we consume also has an effect on your skin. As such, you can take better care of your skin by making smoothies that contain plenty of skin-friendly ingredients such as kale, avocados, mangos, pineapples & more! They are also a great breakfast option for busy mums or those who are on the go. In addition to drinking plenty of smoothies, stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. While this might not seem like much of a hack, it’s actually better than any hack could ever be. Your water consumption is tied directly to how good your skin looks - as it helps you stay healthy, glowing, and hydrated.

Kiss puffy-eyes goodbye with your cutlery.

Gently pressing a cold (and clean) spoon over your eyes is actually an effective way to reduce redness and inflammation - which means it’s a great and efficient hack to make it look as though you’ve had a full night's rest (even if your kid’s kept you up all night).  You can also use this hack to deal with any redness or swelling caused by unexpected pimples. Alternatively, used green-tea tea bags can also be used to the same effect - though be sure they have cooled down before use as you don’t want to burn your skin. Remember, the skin around your eyes is rather thin, meaning that it is also super sensitive.

Extract blackheads with vaseline.

Even if you don’t remember buying any, chances are you probably have some vaseline lying around your home. It’s a law of nature. However, in addition to being an excellent lotion or moisturizer, it can also be used to extract blackheads. In order to try out this hack, you simply need to apply Vaseline to the affected area until it is fully covered. You should then cover the area with a small piece of cling film and allow it to dry. Once dry, you can peel back the clingfilm and watch the blackheads come along with it.

Pucker up with a homemade lip scrub.

When it comes to skincare, it's easy to forget about your lips. However, without the proper care and attention, they can quickly become dry or chapped. Thankfully, you can solve this issue by making a homemade lip scrub with ingredients you already have lying around your kitchen. In fact, you only need three ingredients to get started - olive oil, brown sugar, and white sugar. However, don’t be afraid to experiment with some other skin-friendly ingredients too!

While the above hacks are a great way to pamper yourself this summer, you should also ensure that you put together a skincare routine that works for you - and then make sure you stick to it. In fact, if you do not follow your routine consistently, you’ll notice old skin issues crop up time and time again. If you find it hard to stick to a routine, try to keep it simple. You don’t need a 100+ step skincare regimen to keep your natural glow - you just need to be consistent in your approach. This, coupled with the occasional DIY treat, will help you achieve the skin of your dreams in no time!
