Easy Bathroom Upgrades You Can Do This Weekend

The first step to any bathroom upgrade is deciding what you're willing to spend. You can find your supplies at a big-box store or seek out more specialized products and higher quality. Here are some easy bathroom upgrades you can do this weekend to create a space you will love coming home to.

Install a Towel Rack

If your towel rack seems to be on its last legs, or if you don't have a towel rack at all, consider replacing it with one that matches your current bathroom style. If you're changing the fixture for a new model, check the measurements before removing the old one to ensure that it will fit where the old towel bar was. While you're at it, stock up on a few new hand towels to reflect your personality.

Replace the Lightbulbs

Taking on electrical projects can be a bit risky, so if you don’t want to involve an electrician, consider the upgrade new lightbulbs can create. Swapping out your current bulbs with energy-efficient, colorful mood lighting or could really give a new look to the whole space. You could even add more light to an area by creatively adding lamps to a room. You may choose to have them blend into the room’s décor or stand out as a statement piece and a conversation starter.

Remodel the Cabinets

Cabinets are a standard feature in most bathrooms, but they can be easily remodeled. You can upgrade them in several ways, including wallpaper! If you are considering a facelift for your cabinets you could reface or paint them—the choice is yours! Install decorative knobs and pulls on the cabinet doors to add personality. If you choose to replace it with an entirely new model, place it in the exact location as the original to keep the project simple.

New Faucets

A new faucet can give your whole sink a new look with minimal effort. Here’s how to install one:

  • Turn off the water to the bathroom.

  • Remove the old faucet by unscrewing it from underneath the countertop.

  • Clean up any old plumber's putty or silicone caulk removing excess adhesive before installing your new faucets.

  • Carefully follow all instructions that come with your new faucet set on installing it in its new home.

  • Turn your water back on, and you are all set!

Install a New Showerhead

This project can be gratifying. After you switch out your showerhead, take a long, hot shower, shave your legs (or don't!), and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Replacing a showerhead is simple and could help you reduce water usage as well. First, use an adjustable wrench to unscrew and loosen the existing showerhead, clean the threads, and add sealant tape to secure the installation. Tighten your new showerhead in place, turn on the water and check for leaks. If you find any leaks, simply tighten with your wrench until the leak is fixed.
