Easy Value Adds For The Yard
Sometimes we’re so focused on adding value to our homes, that we never think of the value that can be added to our yard spaces as well. An attractive, landscaped garden can add a surprising amount of value by increasing curb appeal and making more space available for lifestyle.
Here are a few things you can do to add value to your yard or garden space right now:
Add a garden room
Adding a garden room, whether it is a sunroom or conservatory to sit and enjoy the yard in all weather, or even just a shed that adds valuable storage space, can increase the value of a home and give you more space to live in, which makes it a win-win addition to any yard.
Install a pool
Who doesn’t like taking a dip in their very own private pool without random strangers splashing about or yelling across the way? Start with considering size, placement, whether you prefer gunite vs fiberglass pools, and what maintenance might look like. Additionally, consider where you live, how many months you’ll be able to use the pool comfortably, what heating bills and accessories might cost per month, etc. While pools are always fun, understanding how much long-term property value they actually add will have a lot to do with location, weather, and demographics.
Add decking or a patio
Adding decking or a patio to your yard is something you can do yourself if you have good basic DIY skills, and can definitely add value to a home, as it provides a nice space to place garden furniture and sit comfortably whenever the weather is good. Furnish with high-quality rattan chairs and a decent outdoor table, and a parasol of course, and the curb appeal will go up just as much as your family’s comfort and enjoyment in the yard.
Fix walls and fences
If you do not have a boundary wall or fence in place then building one is an easy way to add value. If you do, but it is not looking its best, then having it repaired and/or repainted will go a long way to increasing the value of your yard, and keeping your family and pets safe too. If you are looking to upgrade fences between properties, however, double check your property line before adding anything on - and make sure you check in with the neighbors before any major add-ons or changes.
Mow the lawn and plant some flowers
Of course, a home’s curb appeal, and therefore its value is upgraded by simply ensuring that it is kept in a presentable state. Mow the lawns on a regular basis, plant some pretty flowers, prune the shrubs when they start to get a bit wild, and generally take yard maintenance seriously for amazing results.
While adding value to the yard is a great move for appraisal amounts, the real value is how you and your family will be able to get the most out of your entire space.
