Exterior Home Updates
We’ve been spending so much time indoors these days that it’s been easy to focus on our home’s interiors. Yet with the weather improving and our stir crazy not getting any better, here are some tips for enhancing your home’s exterior. Yup, we’re going aaaall the way to the driveway today…
Protect Your Vehicles
Not everyone uses the garage for its original intention. Instead, the car often sits outside whilst the garage is used for storage. One way you can protect your car without losing your storage space is to add a carport. Domestic carports were incredibly popular in the mid century and if designed right, can add a stylistic touch to the architecture of your home. Go for a sleek design that fits your house’s architectural design and it can even make your house look larger from the outside.
Replace Any Broken Windows Or Doors
Replacing broken windows or doors is great for reinforcing extra security in your home. A lot of break-ins come from compromised or vulnerable windows that weren’t fixed and locks on doors that are easily breakable. Obviously, it can also affect your exterior’s look. Even if you’ve got a brand new roof or a freshly painted home, the windows and doors can let down the entire look if they’re not updated too.
Replacing older versions can also be great for energy efficiency while keeping your property nice and warm in the winter and cool in the summer. If you’ve got single-glazed windows anywhere on your home, start with those.
Easy Landscaping
Depending on whether you’re a fan of gardening might influence how much time and effort you want to spend on your landscape. However that doesn’t mean you can’t transform your outdoor space into something both aspirational and manageable. Landscaping can be costly but still worth looking into considering the time investment you’d be making yourself. Going for a more drought tolerant approach can be helpful in finding ways of making the space into something functional, interesting to look at, and easier to maintain. Try swapping grass for turf or sand and opting for low water plants. You’ll cut your water costs and have the most well kept landscape in the neighborhood.
Do A Check Of The Roof
The roof is hard to view, especially if you’ve got a two or three-story house. With that being said, it’s always good to do a check of the roof every year to make sure that nothing has been compromised. After all, the roof is a crucial part of your home and it’s something that can lead to extensive damage within the home very quickly. Leaks and exposed tiles that have cracked or fallen off the property is something you want to rectify as quickly as possible.
If you have access to your roof from the attic, then it can definitely be something to utilize. If not, then you’ll want to get a professional roofer to come over and check it for any issues.
Clean The Exteriors Regularly
The exteriors need cleaning, just like all parts of the interior need cleaning too. The outside of your home gets a battering from weather conditions and debris, dirt and other matter, hitting your home on a daily basis. There are plenty of ways in which you can give your exteriors a clean down. Pressure washers are good for cleaning down brickwork and even windows if done carefully.
Spending a bit of time going around the outside of your home and cleaning it is definitely worth it.
Consider An Extension
An extension is a big job and for the most part, it’s going to look worse before it gets better. But if you’re looking at adding some space onto your home without moving, then an extension is a great option. An extension is a costly expense and something that may take time to do too. So, it’s worth factoring in all the pros and cons and making a decision from there.
Whether it’s an extension or simply giving your windows a twice-monthly clean, a little exterior love can all make the difference when it comes to the presentation of your home.
