Fall Upgrade: Home Maintenance Edition
It’s easy for the romance with your home to fizzle over time - which is why we are such huge advocates for seasonal maintenance and upgrades. Not only does this help keep the place feeling new and fresh, but it also makes for an easier daily way of life - which we believe is a huge part of truly enjoying the home we live in.
And while Spring Cleaning is always a big event around here, Fall upgrades are just as important. Here are our favorite maintenance tasks to do at the turn of the oncoming season.
Clean & Declutter Often
One tip to help you maintain a beautiful home is to clean and declutter your rooms and spaces often. A regular cleaning schedule will hep prevent you from putting it off for too long - and once per season is a great way to do this. A clean home will be nicer to look at and live in and helps remove germs and dirt as well. A great place to start is the closet - put your Fall gear front and center and stow away anything you won’t be using till next Spring/Summer. After that, an ideal place to tackle is the kitchen, as Fall means a lot of cooking with seasonal tools, such as baking items and crockpots, etc. Reorganizing the kitchen to accommodate the kind of activity you’ll be doing is monumental to peace of mind, not to mention efficiency and less wear and tear on the home.
Make Repairs Right Away
You can keep your home looking beautiful throughout the year by making repairs right away. Avoid putting them off for another day or they may all add up to eve more costly fixes in the future. For instance, if bad weather hits and your roof is wrecked in the process, contacting storm damage roof repair professionals asap is a huge must. Otherwise, you risk both leaking and air seeping through into your home - not to mention the increased risk for structural damage.
Follow A Seasonal Maintenance Checklist
It may also help if you create and follow a seasonal maintenance checklist. This way you’ll be sure not to forget about any important tasks during the turn of the season. Maintain a beautiful home by going through your checklist each month and seeing what needs to get done and be addressed. Some key items for Fall include raking leaves and aerating the lawn, inspecting all heating systems such as water heaters, forced-air heating systems, checking on and clearing all drains - both interior drains and exterior gutters, touching up exterior and trim paint, replace damaged or loose roof shingles, recaulk windows and other seals, and cleaning/checking on the fireplace.
It’ll be much easier to tackle this project in this sort of way than leaving it all to do at a later date. You’ll appreciate having a list to follow and not having to remember all that needs your attention in your head.
Keep up with Essential Updates & Improvements
If you want to have any luck with selling your home one day in the future then it’s wise to keep up with important updates and enhancements. You can maintain a beautiful looking home by making improvements to it over time. Keep in mind you don’t always have to perform a full renovation project and instead, you can make small changes over time that have a significant impact on the look and feel. For instance, maybe you apply fresh paint to the walls and cabinets, rip out old carpeting, and install new appliances in your kitchen.
These tips will have you on the right track to making your home more beautiful and attractive. It’s worth your time and energy since you’ll be able to enjoy living in your home more this way, and will sleep well at night knowing you’re keeping up with important maintenance tasks and improvements.
