4 Ways To Give Back To The Earth
Most of us don’t think about it every day, but the earth does so much for us and continuously provides a place to live, regardless of how we treat it. And while we have our regular ways to minimize waste and life sustainably, here are a few of our personal favorites that anyone can do on any budget - believe it or not. In fact, it’s often common that the most sustainable way is often also the more affordable way.
Volunteer To Clean Up Local Parks and Beaches
Trash doesn’t always make it to the proper disposal site, which is very unfortunate. In fact, litter on walking paths, beaches, and other areas not only looks messy but can also harm local wildlife. Although we can’t always stop other people from littering, we can avoid doing it ourselves and volunteer to clean up local parks and beaches.
If you don’t know of a cleanup group in your area, consider starting one yourself; your friends, family, and neighbors will love to join you in keeping the community beautiful and clean.
Keep Bees
Keeping bees isn’t for everyone, but we must protect the bee population. Believe it or not, bees are responsible for most of the crops we rely on for food, and their population is declining. Beekeeping is becoming a common hobby, but many people don’t like the hands-on approach.
If you’re looking for a more hands-off approach to helping the environment, consider natural beekeeping; it’s similar to standard practices, but more holistic. By learning everything you should know about natural beekeeping, we can make a difference in a simple way.
Ditch Single-Use Plastic
Single-use plastic is one of the most harmful substances to the environment, and it’s wreaking havoc on our wildlife. Although we love the convenience of grabbing a plastic water bottle, it can result in incredibly wasteful behavior. Instead of purchasing large quantities of water bottles, consider investing in a reusable bottle and refill it as you need throughout the day.
Plant a Tree (or Two or Three!)
Planting trees is one of the best ways to love the earth, especially since we use many to make paper products. Remarkably, trees work to clean the air, water, and soil, making the environment much more beautiful for us to enjoy. If you’re unsure what to plant, trees native to your area are usually the best choice.
When we embrace these interesting ways to start loving the earth, we can work together to keep the environment healthy and beautiful. It doesn’t take much to do our part, but the real difference happens when we encourage others to do the same. Rather than celebrating the earth once each year, let’s work together to make every day Earth Day.
