Free Bird

We snapped these photos while kicking it somewhere between Fisherman's Wharf and the Ferry Building during our latest staycation, about a block off from Ghirardelli Square. This was one of my favorite little getaways we've taken in a while - we mostly holed up in our room eating in, wearing robes (ask anyone close to me about my bathrobe fixation), and taking time for little lazy moments you don't often get during your regular life.

While we ate in for most of the week (we were in a 'getting dressed is a lot of work for food' state of mind'), we did pop out for a snack here and there, and in the process, discovered a favorite new restaurant in North Beach called Peña Pachamama. It's all vegan Bolivian food with live entertainment 4-5 days a week. We loved the atmosphere - quite (when there's no music), cozy, and full of character. It's like its own little world.

The food is also amazing - we ordered the Plantains, the Organic Raw Pizza, the Bolivian style Portapancho, and for dessert, shared the Chocolate Fudge Pecan Live-Food Brownie and the Raw White Chocolate Vanilla Cheesecake. I suggest every singe thing we ordered. But I do have to say that for a vegan who never loved cheesecake, even when I ate dairy and processed sugar, this raw vegan version is insanely good. Oh, and turns out Clark Gable and Carole Lombard used to have their romantic rendezvous here back in the day. Qué Romantico!
