Start Your Spring Cleaning In The Winter: Here's Why.
Spring cleaning outside of the springtime can feel silly - after all, we save up all these jobs to the early months of the year so we can get them all out of the way at once! We can use the (mostly) dry and fresh weather to our advantage and make our homes feel cleaner than ever.
But there are some pretty good arguments for starting that spring cleaning checklist of ours in winter. Plus, chances are that we’re stuck inside a lot more than the tail end of spring, which by default ups the amount of time available for focusing on those tasks. But if you need a little more convincing, here are some more persuasive reasons to get a jumpstart on that spring cleaning workload.
There’s More Time To Do It
The winter is often a time where we slow down - both for the holidays and for going hardcore hygge mode. Instead of spending an entire weekend of deep cleaning the home and ensuring it feels light and smells nice divvy up those deep clean tasks and do half now, and then half later on.
It’s Easier to Take That Clutter Elsewhere
Wintertime is when thrift shops and charity stores are crying out for donations. If you declutter now and chuck everything into a donation box, organizations will be much more likely to take it.
It’s also a more helpful time to head down to homeless shelters to drop off old clothing, towels, and blankets, as it’s these kinds of items that become crucial when the temperature starts dropping.
Cut Off Many Problems at the Root
It’s like they say - eat the frog first. Clean now rather than later and put a bunch of your household problems to rest before they spiral into issues that take ages to clean up. For example, clear out the gutters and drains now and avoid a huge pile of frozen leaves later.
Or if you find holes in your drywall or skirting boards, Googling pest control near me and doing it ASAP will prevent a full infestation from taking hold in the home. Just a little bit of forward thinking goes a very long way. Plus, the more items you can square off the to-do list in November and December, the better the ease into the New Year.
We get it - spring cleaning in the winter can feel like a waste of time. After all, the cold, wet, damp and drizzly weather often make things feel drab. But getting a few select jobs out of the way ahead of schedule will really free up time and start the New Year fresh.
