Summer Checklist - Maintenance Edition

Making lifestyle shifts to prepare the home for summer is a wonderful way to welcome in the new season. However it’s also a great time to do a little extra groundwork when it comes to maintenance. With less cold weather and fewer harsh conditions to contend with, it’s the perfect time to tighten the ship.'

Inspect The Roof

This is a great time to check the roofing as the weather is likely to be sunny and dry. You can get on a ladder and look out for either broken, damaged or misplaced roof tiles. This will help you determine whether your roof needs to be repaired by a professional so that you have plenty of time before the cold, rainy weather arrives. It’s best to inspect your roof during the summer so that you can organize any repairs to take place and get in contact with a professional roofing company who sells the appropriate roof materials.

Check Your Heating System

It’s unlikely that the heating system gets as much use during the Spring and Summer, so it will be dormant for some time. It’s a good idea to switch on your boiler just to check that it is working ok and to see whether all the radiators in your house are also working well. You don’t want to leave this until the last minute in the winter when you really do need the heating to be on to find that it won’t work at all. So it can certainly be useful to carry out maintenance checks in the summer instead, that way you will not need to suffer through the cold weather.

A Loft Extension

There is a lot of building work that goes into organizing and completing a loft extension. It also means that part of your home is going to be without a roof for some time, even if it is temporarily covered. Ideally you don’t want to be carrying out a loft extension in the winter when the weather is likely to be cold and rainy as this could disrupt the work that is carried out but also will leave your home susceptible to flooding. Therefore it is a much better idea to get your loft extension sorted in the summer when there are likely to be fewer weather disruptions.

Garden Maintenance

Looking after the garden requires a lot of maintenance, so it will be difficult to do this when the weather is wet and windy. In the summer you can regularly mow the lawn, get rid of any pesky weeds and plant some vegetables and flowers.

Overall it can help if you are organized with looking after your home and carrying out any maintenance works. You want to ensure that everything is in good condition but you also want to minimize the level of disruptions that you may face. So it can certainly be useful if you plan ahead and try to complete any of these necessary checks when the weather is still warm and sunny.
