In Case You're Not Going Back Into Work Soon: Home Office Upgrades 2.0
With the Delta Variant still in full swing, some of us may not be seeing the interior of any office other than the one inside our homes for a good while longer. To combat environment fatigue which can in turn lead to lack of productivity, a few upgrades can go a long way.
A Comfy Chair
Ergonomic furniture is a must-have in every home office as it will make working for longer periods far more bearable - and save your body. An ergonomic keyboard and mouse can make a world of difference to your hand and wrist, placing them in a more natural position with typing or moving your hand around. If you are typing and keeping your hands in unnatural positions for a long time you are at risk of developing a painful condition known as repetitive strain injury (RSI). RSI if left untreated can become chronic and you may end up missing a few days/weeks of work until your injury heals.
A comfy chair is also a must, as a good quality chair will offer you tons of support for both your neck, back, arms. It should also have the ability to raise up and down and move the backrest forward and back for the utmost support. If it’s a true ergonomic chair, it’s definitely worth the price tag attached, as your back (and neck) will thank you in the long run.
Fresh Air
If possible, a window in your home office will go a long way. Not only will it let natural light in, but the fresh air will be a huge invigorator as well. Try opening your window for 5 - 10 minutes at several points throughout the day. The fresh air coming in will circulate and allow all the pollutants that have built up to escape the room and be replaced with clean air. The fresh air will also be great for your productivity levels as it can make a huge difference in keeping you awake and alert throughout the day.
If you are unable to get to a window or open - or a window just in general- while you are working, then a purifier is a great alternative. A favorite of ours is the hunter air purifier - it does a great job of keeping the air circulating while you work, pulling dirty air in, filtering, and pushing the fresh air back out.
Locked Door
It may be a necessity for you to have a lock on your door while you are working. If you have family around, especially children, those interruptions definitely add up throughout the day. A lock sends the message so you don’t need to constantly remind them. Additionally, it will help with clearing your own head and focusing on the tasks at hand. Plus at this moment, we’ve all had an awkward moment or two in the midst of a phone or conference call, now haven’t we?
Artwork
Finally, if your walls are looking plain and boring then why not think about adding some artwork to freshen them up a bit? Swapping up your artwork will give you a new headspace altogether - and even, if you’re lucky, make you feel like you’ve left the house today….
A Thoughtful Misfit is a woman who doesn't fit in boxes - from how she dresses, to the way she lives, to the way she chooses to mother and to love…
