Preventing A Natural Invasion

Fortunately and unfortunately, the spaces that we find comfortable are also often comfortable to plants and animals. And while we’re all for biophilia, we still have boundaries when it comes to invasive plants and animals. So how can we stop nature from invading your home to the point of destruction?

Plants

It’s rare that plants will take root inside a place that is being looked after, but this isn’t impossible. Keeping carpets vacuumed can do a great deal to help with this, ensuring that seeds don’t have a chance to settle when they are brought in from outside. Alongside the plants which might grow inside your place, it’s also worth thinking about those which could grow outside and cause problems by entering your home. Roots can be very bad for your home, making it worth getting rid of them.

Fungi

Fungi is one of the most crucial lifeforms on the planet. Without the stuff, it could be hard for a lot of natural ecosystems to operate, but this doesn’t mean that you want them inside your home. Mushrooms and mould can grow with ease in dark and damp places, and many homes are stuck with issues like this for years. Working to keep the place dry will help, but you may also need to be prepared to perform regular cleaning work to make sure that the fungus in your home doesn’t stick around.

Animals

Animals are also very important to the planet, but this doesn’t mean that you want them in your home. Most people work hard to make sure that bugs, mammals, and other pests don’t move in, but it can be hard. Animals can be attracted by food, shelter, and even the movement and sounds created by your lifestyle.

Unfortunately, one of the only ways to deal with issues like this is through extermination or capture by a professional company. Having raccoons in your attic, for example, could cause huge damage to your home. Thankfully, though, they can be removed humanely without having to risk anyone in the process. Some pests, like wasps and ants, will usually have to be killed to get them out of your home, but this can be worth it to avoid the risks that they can pose.

With all of this in mind, you should be feeling ready to get started on the work which will go into keeping your home safe from nature. A lot of people struggle with this, finding it hard to know what to do when they are facing nature, even when they have all of the tools they need to fight against it.
