At Home Gyms: Opting For The Right Dumbell Weights

Home gyms have a growing number of advantages - from privacy to safety to cleanliness - not to mention convenience and actually getting ourselves to work out, home gyms beat most other gyms, hands down. If the space is available (and not a ton is actually needed), it might well be worth the addition. However we definitely recommend starting with the smaller workout tools than with bigger, bulky items that can only be used for limited types of movements.

When looking at gym equipment to use on a regular basis, there is no doubt that dumbbells need to be a central part of this. However, the right set will depend on specific goals. Here are a few pointers that can help you to choose the right dumbbell weights. 

Choose Based on Fitness Goals 

Everybody has slightly different fitness goals that cannot necessarily be combined together. However, these tend to come in three major categories: strength training, muscle building and muscle endurance. If you are looking to build up your strength, you will tend to choose a heavier Mirafit dumbbells set that will allow you to complete up to six reps. However, if you are wanting to build muscle, you will need to be able to do up to 12. For the muscle endurance category, 15 reps should be your goal, which will likely mean that you will end up going for a lighter dumbbell. 

Pick Based on Material

You have a couple of different materials that tend to be used for dumbbells. At the cheaper end of the scale, there are the plastic dumbbells. Of course, if you are willing and able to spend more, you can get your hands on the cast iron dumbbells that are readily used in all sorts of different gym environments. Ultimately, it all comes down to the budget that you have available to spare. 

Different Dumbbell Types 

Next up on the list, you have the different dumbbell types that you can use. First of all, there are the fixed weight dumbbells where what you see on the side is the weight that you are going to end up lifting. There are also the adjustable ones as well, which allow you to select different weights depending on the goals that you have set out for yourself. Of course, the latter option tends to be more expensive – as expected. 

Shape of the Dumbbell

The other major factor that can impact your decision making is the actual shape of the dumbbell. Some of them are in a hexagonal shape, while you also have the rounded ones that you need to bear in mind as well. Ultimately, this all comes down to your own personal preferences, so it is certainly worth picking a few up to work out which ones suit your set of needs and requirements the most. 

All of these are amongst the different factors that can end up making a big difference to your decision making and can really tell you if you have the right set of dumbbells. Ultimately, you want to consider all of the different factors as closely as possible as this will make it much less likely that you will be disappointed.
