Easy Ways To Update Your Summer Home Style

Do you have a summer style for your home already, or have you never thought of it before? Adding a few design tweaks to your home during the start of summer is a great way to freshen up your space (especially after having spent so much time in it as of late) not to mention bring all the vacation feels home with you. Here are a few of our favorite seasonal styles du jour to get those creative juices flowing.

Cottagecore 

If you like a style that blends the old with the new, one that is contemporary yet identifiable, then look no further than Cottage Core. This modern style, developed in the 2010s, romanticizes rural life and brings complementary aspects of the rustic farm cottage into urban homes. 

If you want to lean in to cottage core this summer, start at your nearest thrift stores and keep an eye our for wooden furniture (a little wear-and-tear is sometimes a bonus), patterned curtains, and vintage cookware. It doesn’t hurt to bake a couple of loaves of rustic bread in the oven while you’re at it.   

Japandi

Another popular style this summer is Japandi which is a portmanteau of Japanese and Scandinavian. This style has a long history but it has re-emerged as a popular trend in recent years. This style is ideal for minimalist who also like a bit of comfort. 

If you want to dive into a Janpandi aesthetic this summer, or at least get a little closer to it (hello minimalism we meet again), it’s fairly simple to achieve without spending too much money. Start with plain paint for the walls and choose subtle, varying shades of the same color. Opt for mostly cleared surfaces, neutral tones, and furniture that’s neat and linear and avoid patterns. 

Mirrored Furniture 

One of the popular styles 10 years ago, mirrored furniture is back on-trend in a big way. This is in part due to the fact that mirrored furniture has tons of interior design advantages, such as creating the illusion of extra space and allowing more light into the room. 

If you’re interested in mirrored furniture there are lots of options. You can buy pieces individually to give your space an accent, or you can buy mirrored furniture sets and fully lean in. Sets of mirrored furniture include mirrored dining tables, mirrored units, mirrored bedside cabinets, mirrored drawers, and more depending on your order.  Try just a piece in each room to gloss up your decor and add sparkle back into the room.

Earth Tones 

One summer style that never goes out of fashion is earth tones. Earth tones use the earth colors of red, yellow, green, brown and black in creative ways depending on your rooms or space. Earth colors lend themselves well to living areas because they create feelings of security and comfort. 

One of the reasons earth tones don’t go out of style is because they work so well with different furniture sets and design ideas, so you can redesign your home entirely and earth tones will still fit in well. For a living room, bedroom, or communal area, where earth tones tend work best, try choosing one primary color and one accent color.

Color Pops

On the topic of accent colors, color pops are a great idea for summer decor if you need something more inspiring but you don’t want to invest a lot of money. You only need to choose a color theme then buy items that fit the bill, you will end up with a brightened up summer home style that is both on-trend, seasonal, and low cost.
