The Art Of A Balanced Bedroom
Our bedrooms are our personal havens. They’re a special place to decompress after an eventful day, be alone with our own thoughts, and reset for tomorrow. While we want to keep our bedrooms sleep-friendly (avoiding components such as neon colors, harsh lighting, or clutter), they’re also a wonderful place to inject a little personality. Here are our favorite tips for creating an engaging space without having it overwhelm you.
Transform a Wall
Do all your bedroom walls look the same? Dedicate one as your accent wall and mix it up a bit. Upgrade this wall with a fresh coat of paint in a different color - or you could opt for a pretty patterned wallpaper.
If you’re not looking to paint a wall or slap wallpaper on it, you can still upgrade your space with minimal hassle. A wall gallery is a great way to personalize - or to utilize more vertical space and give your room a more natural feel, consider hanging plants from the ceiling near this now lively wall.
Incorporate Colorful Home Décor
One of the best ways you can add color to any room is through colorful home décor. Pops of color bring life to a bedroom without overdoing it - even when you have a mostly neutral palette.
Determine a few, complementary accent colors that may already be in your room and play them up via accessories. Look for temporary ways to play with your bedroom’s color scheme, such as throw pillows and blankets, and you’ll be able to adjust your scheme with minimal effort. However you might also want to consider taking something away for everything you bring into the bedroom to keep the space open and airy.
Determine Your Focal Point and Enhance It
For most homeowners, their bed is the focal point of their bedroom. Some rooms offer grandiose windows or eccentric art that catches the eyes’ attention. Either way, emphasizing your room’s focal point is a great way to make your room more engaging.
Gauge what you want your focal point to be (or what it already is) in your room and play it up. Patterned or colorful bedding is a great way to draw the eye to your bed. If your room’s focal point is the windows, enhance their look with unique drapes and refreshed window treatments. Should your room have a rare architectural element, such as a fireplace or columns, emphasize it with strategic ambient lighting and keep the room a little more open (aka decluttered) to enhance the structure.
