Hygge Winter Wardrobe Tips

It’s easy to be stylish when it’s warm outside. You have dozens of options, from rompers to dresses to shorts. But once the temperature drops, our focus turns from style to survival, and we care far more about what we’re covering up than showing off.

But also, Hygge season just so happens to be our favorite season. From cozying up in the most luxe of materials to indulging in quality outerwear we’re excited to don on a daily basis, here are a few things we love about winter style - and how to do it well.

Embrace Layers

Don’t think of layering as a way to bury your beautiful body. Think of each layer as an opportunity to add a new color or pattern to your ensemble. You can also think of it as a way to create visual interest while giving you options when—inevitably—you walk into a building with the heat on too high.

When you’re layering, focus on putting thinner layers closer to the skin with bulkier layers on top. Practically, this is easier to do and will keep you warmer. Style-wise, it will create a more cohesive look.

Up Your Accessory Game

Your other layers often focus more on function than form. But for your other cold-weather layers, such as your hats, scarves, and gloves, you can get a little more creative. Here are a few ways to stay warm and stylish with your winter clothes.

Hats

There are two parts to wearing a hat. First, there’s the hat itself. If you’re not a fan of your current hat, consider trying out new hat styles, like:

  • Beanies

  • Berets

  • Deerstalkers

  • Cloches

  • Bucket hats

Also, think about trying a different hairstyle to wear with your hat. For example, if you usually stuff all your hair in your hat, try wearing it long or in a ponytail.

Scarves

Scarves are the perfect opportunity to add a color or pattern pop to your ensemble. You can also change the mood of your entire look based on how you tie the scarf. You can tie it low for a more professional chic look, calling to mind a tie. Or, for an elegant look, go for an infinity tuck.

Gloves

Gloves are the most practical piece of winter wear in your arsenal, especially if you have to shovel the walkway or scrape your frosted windshield. But if you’re going to a formal, indoor event, you can use the opportunity to look for thinner, pattered scarves for a vintage chic look.

Focus on Footwear

One article of clothing that never stays covered in the winter is your footwear. And since you’re battling cold and snow, it’s time for your boots to shine.

Consider investing in a few pairs of high-quality boots in a neutral color. That way, you will have a pair to match every outfit. Otherwise, you can take other stylish shoes and cover them in waterproofing spray to make them winter-ready.
